Plug it and Play it

Cal State Long Beach is adopting  a 15-year bike plan that will make getting around campus on a bike a lot more safe and efficient.

Launching its bike share program in January 2013, CSULB will become more bike friendly through various implementations. Being put into effect next year will be a solar-powered bike kiosk that will connect those living at the dorms to campus life, providing easier transportation for students.

"You can just grab a bike by the residence halls and ride it across campus at the end of the library and they are plug and play, it's there to take back to the dorms," Elissa Thomas, a sustainable transportation program coordinator for CSULB, said to the daily 49er.

On top of the new kiosk, more bike lanes to various areas of the campus will be added, including the biggest parking lot- Lot 14, where it will get a large bike and pedestrian pathway.

Cal State Long Beach currently only has two bike lanes, providing little options for students on bikes who are risking getting cited for not riding on designated bike lanes.

This new bike plan ties in with all the construction going on at Lot 18, because they are all part of Cal State Long Beach's plans to improve campus life for students.
